Peterborough Youth Brass Quintet

Peterborough Youth Brass Quintet

The Peterborough Youth Brass Quintet was started as a school quintet from James Starth P.S. It's original conductor was Mr. Bill Richardson, a retired music teacher from Oshawa. He put together a group of two Trumpets, an Alto Sax, a Trombone, and a Tuba. There original name was "Basically Brass" because of the Alto Sax not being a true brass instrument. The four songs that they played were: "Steal Away," "Cirmond (The Lord is My Shepherd)," "Ode to Joy," and, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." Unfortunately the exact arrangement that they played can not be found on this web site, however, another arrangement of each (except steal away) can be downloaded.

"Basically Brass" only ran until the end of the school year, but four of the players wanted to continue with music over the summer, So the 1st Trumpet Player (Barron Crawford) and the Tuba player (Jeff Bertirm) decided to find a French Horn player that was interested. And so it is now known as the Peterborough Youth Brass Quintet, or PYBQ.
